The Thornhill Woods Shul is excited to share a new initiative from a group of passionate women in the U.S. who have taken it upon themselves to create a “revolution of kindness” in their communities called AOK, Acts of Kindness.
In reaction to the latest tragedies which have befallen us, such as our brothers and sisters who are under attack in Israel, the shocking weather that has devastated parts of our country as well as others, this group, Ahavas Yisrael has taken upon themselves to create this worldwide initiative and unite together in lieu of what’s happening around us. We need to focus on caring and respecting EVERY Jew. Hashem wants us to feel the pain of another Jew and act upon it. The main focus of the program is to provide very practical opportunities of showing care and respect to fellow Jews in their community. The basic idea is to focus on a different aspect of mitzvas over the 40 day period between Rosh Chodesh Elul to Yom Kippur.
The basic idea is to spread kindness and good will in our community and to create an atmosphere of love and friendship by actively and visibly DOING kindness for those we know as well as, for those we do not yet know. Our goal is to become a community that comes together not only when confronted with extreme life circumstances, tragedies or great simcha, but equally, in our daily encounters with each other.
Aliza Cohen and Dini Gottlieb will initiate this in their respective Ahavas Yisrael classes.

Under the direction of Allison Meshwork and Nicky Rosen, the Thornhill Woods Shul is proud to announce the formation of “Leebe: The Thornhill Woods Children’s Chesed Project” (in memory of Leiby Kletzky).
At the very core, our aim is to help youngsters recognize and embrace their own abilites to contribute to society in meanigful ways through acts of kindess and goodness. Having children involved in chesed will help them to build their own self worth and become more sensitive to the needs of others, all while fulfilling our collective mission of being “a light unto the nations”. Rasing thoughtful and kind children to be caring and giving adults begins at a young age through enjoyable opportunities to help others, and that is what Leebe offers our youth. (See full schedule below)
Leebe was started in an effort to honour the late Leiby Kletzky. Leebe is our attempt to bring more light into the world through the next generation.
The group will meet bi-monthly to start and will take part in creative fundraisers, various collections for needy organizations and groups and much more!
See below for a list of Chesed events that have been planned.
