Shalom members!
It is Friday afternoon and we have some free time before Shabbat. We had a wonderful morning at the Aish World Centre listening to Lori talk about the importance of Shabbat and candle lighting. I have always known how important lighting candles is, but now it holds a deeper meaning.

After that, we had a talk from Raizel the challah lady! She talked about the importance of breaking challah, and saying blessings over it before you make it. She then showed us her “tricks” of the trade and different ways to make the challah. We all had a turn to take some dough and make our own challahs for shabbat tonight. It is going to be a very special shabbat.

Now there is free time to shop, relax and get ready for Shabbat. Since I have never had a Shabbat in Israel this is sure to be extra special. We have a pre – Shabbat concert, candle lighting, dancing and then a wonderful Shabbat meal. It will be a night to remember for a lifetime!

I will try to check in at least one more time before coming home. Once I return, I look for to sharing my JWRP experiences in more detail.

Shabbat Shalom everyone!

Hi everyone,
It is now the end of our second of our amazing mission in Israel with JWRP. We are currently on the bus leaving the mystical city of Tzfat to our home for orthe next eight in Jerusalem.

Today was an amazing day! After our breakfast we left to go “kayaking” on the Jordan river. We found out that it was really a raft that would take between 4-6 people.

Once we had our group divided up , off we went. It wasn’t white water rafting, it was a very relaxing ride (it was about 45 minutes). After that we had a picnic lunch and then off to Tzfat.

Tzfat is one of the four holy cities in Israel – Jerusalem, Hebron , Hebron and Tzfat. We took a guided walk through the art colony and then to two shuls, one Sephardic and Ashkenazi. Then we had free time to wonder through the art colony to shop.

Each gallery was a home to beautiful artists selling their own paintings, Mezuzahs, menorahs and so much more. We only had a short time and some of the group bought really beautiful pieces! I browsed a lot but waiting for Jerusalem to buy something special.

Now, as I said at the start of this post, we are on the way to Jerusalem. Lori Palatnik is now telling us her story about how she got this point.

There is so much more to share, but it will have to wait until tomorrow.

The journey comes from the holy city of Jerusalem.
